5 Designs Solutions for a Cramped Kitchen

When it comes to how we design our homes, everything is customizable—from cabinets to creative multipurpose appliances there are endless possibilities for every space in your home. Having a small space can be difficult, especially if it’s the kitchen. Follow these simple design elements to transform your cramped kitchen into an open space suitable for entertaining and practical daily living.

#1 Keep it simple

One of the most important things to keep in mind when implementing new design elements into a small space is to keep it simple! Choosing minimalistic finishing on cabinets, maintaining clean lines and surfaces, and having a limit on the amount of furnishing in your kitchen are just a few ways to help create an open and cohesive design, even in the smallest of spaces.

These cabinets are a great example of how simple clean cabinets can make a room appear more open and spacious

#2 Add a movable cart

Although this might not seem like it would provide much extra space, adding a movable cart to your kitchen can be a practical storage solution that will also add a little bit of style. It is also extremely versatile as you can move it if you need extra space. These small carts are great for storing countertop appliances, which can easily be moved to the top of the refrigerator or cabinets if you find yourself entertaining and in need of your new bar cart. Adding a cart on wheels also makes it possible to steal space from a neighboring room to seamlessly blend your kitchen with the rest of your home.

#3 Wall-mounted storage

There is no shortage of shelving options to help organize your kitchen. From pegboards for small kitchen accessories to durable hooks for hanging pots and pans, it’s easy to find any size storage solution for those tight spaces between cabinets. There are also many different open shelving options to hold those gadgets that may not fit in your cabinets. Countertop appliances can also be placed on floating shelves to free up counter space and create clean open countertop surfaces.

#4 Custom cabinetry

Custom pieces are a great way to utilize every inch of space in your kitchen. Being able to have exactly what you need, where you need it will be a huge space saver. One great example is installing a pull out pantry in one of those tighter and more difficult to utilize spaces. This can be a great tool for miscellaneous kitchen items as well as food storage. Another way to turn wasted space into storage space is to install toe-kick drawers. These allow you to get the most out of the space below your cabinets, that is typically inaccessible, creating extra storage throughout the kitchen. Have questions about which custom cabinet is right for you? Take a look and consult the experts.

#5 Get creative!

Still can’t seem to find space? Get creative! Transform your stove-top into a convenient prep space by using a cutting board to create your own stove-top cover. This makes for quick and easy food preparation. Be sure to choose a functional and decorative cutting surface. Add some simple hooks on the wall above your stove to hang your board from, this way it stays within reach and doesn’t need to be stored!

No matter the size of your kitchen there are endless options when it comes to storage solutions. Trying out different methods and placement is the best way to find what works for you!
