Merry Christmas, and Happy Mudrooming!

mudroom

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse” … but your family’s trails of mud, snow and wet footprints created such a muss, it left you lying awake pondering new ways to kick up a fuss.

Instead of hoping that St. Nicholas soon will be there, contact Central Construction Group to remove the messy burden that’s too big to bear. As Indy’s premier home remodeler, we can transform your mudroom entrance into a neat and organized affair.

Typically, a mudroom simply serves as a secondary entrance for family members only. It often becomes a catch-all for coats, boots, shoes, outdoor equipment, and well, mud. Even if guests never see your mudroom, most homeowners prefer to keep it clean, functional and inviting — so, it doesn’t become a dud.

While CCG has no miniature sleigh, nor eight tiny reindeer, this construction team brings a bag full of tools that are sure to endear. Here are some functional mudroom features to clear and organize every mound, so the whole family learns how to keep the mess down.

Built-in Cubbies and Cabinets

No mudroom is complete without sturdy, floor-to-ceiling cabinets and built-in cubbies.

Dedicate a space for each family member to store their stuff, from coats and hats to boots, backpacks, and outdoor play equipment.

Add some storage bins above or below to keep clutter to a minimum, and free up extra storage space in other areas of the home.

Coat Hooks

Add several coat hooks in your mudroom, so your main entrance remains free of clutter and still looks inviting to guests.

Take advantage of the ample hook real estate along the walls in your mudroom, and stop fumbling around trying to create space in a separate coat closet or on a freestanding coat rack.

Mudroom hooks also provide an easy and convenient place to hang wet umbrellas, coats and jackets to drip dry. If you own a hot tub or pool, they also make a great spot to hang soaked swimsuits and towels.

Benches

Every mudroom should include a comfortable bench to sit on, lean against, or store more stuff inside. For instance, keep dog-walking supplies, such as leashes, harnesses or poop bags, neatly organized in a bench with handy, built-in compartments right by the door.

Or, spruce up the mudroom with a nicely painted wooden bench, then color-coordinate seat cushions to add some flair to the functional, but comfortable space.

Benches with hidden storage also help to keep the room tidy, simply concealing dirty shoes down below.

Durable Flooring

High-traffic areas, especially those exposed to the outside elements, require durable flooring that holds up, even under the harshest conditions.

For a room that’s bound to get dirty in more ways than one, we recommend easy-to-clean, waterproof options, such as ceramic tile or luxury vinyl tile.

While brick or wood flooring also looks good in a mudroom, the materials can start to fade or warp with constant exposure to water.

Firewood storage

Cozy up for a long winter’s nap — or in front of the fire on a Saturday night — with dry firewood neatly stored on a rack in your mudroom.

With plenty of logs stacked just a few feet away, you can keep the fire going well into the night, without making another trek to the woodshed.

Charging stations

Last, but not least, don’t forget to add electrical outlets and charging stations to the most convenient room of your house.

With gidgets and gadgets galore, a mudroom with dedicated space to recharge electronic devices keeps everything in its place — and, bonus, you’ll always know where to find them!

Like the jolly ol’ elf with a twinkle in his eye, CCG wishes all of our clients, “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
