While kitchen upgrades and bathroom renovations give homeowners the highest satisfaction, additional project items contribute to maximum cost recovery, according to the National Association of Realtors® and National Association of the Remodeling Industry’s 2025 Remodeling Impact Report.

If you’re ready to remodel, consider these top cost recovery add-ons to your home remodeling project.

Entryway Door

A new steel front door tops the list, with cost recovery at 100%. Those who install a new fiberglass front door see a cost recovery of 80%. A front door swap is a quick add-on project that improves the overall look and security of your home.

Other benefits? Both steel and fiberglass exterior doors are low maintenance and improve a home’s energy efficiency with superior insulation and sealing. If you love the look of wood but want to upgrade, both steel and fiberglass doors come in a variety of styles and finishes.

Closet Renovation

A closet renovation is a great add-on to a larger remodeling project, and features an 83% cost recovery. Typically seen in a primary bedroom remodel, this renovation increases closet space and improves functionality.

Adding convenient racks, shelves, and drawers improves the look of your closet and increases storage. Your style dictates lighting choices, such as task lighting or chandeliers. Popular closet seating choices include chairs, benches, or ottomans.

New Windows

A kitchen or bath remodel is a great time to replace old windows. New vinyl windows have a 74% percent cost recovery, while new wood windows have a 71% cost recovery.

Not only does it improve the look of your home, but it also significantly improves your home’s energy costs and reduces traffic noise. Vinyl windows are durable and low maintenance. Those who opt for double-hung windows appreciate improved ventilation and easier access for window cleaning.

Basement or Attic Conversion

Converting a basement or attic to usable living space is a stand-alone remodeling project that increases the square footage and value of your home. A basement remodel has a 71% cost recovery, while the cost recovery for an attic conversion is 67%.

A basement or attic remodel helps you enjoy your home even more and provides more space for what you need. You can transform this area into a living space/kitchenette combo, entertainment area, or a place for your favorite hobby. Need more ideas? Check out our blog post on finished basement ideas.

Kitchen Renovation

A kitchen renovation ranks near the top of homeowner satisfaction and also features a 60% cost recovery. As one of the main spaces in your home, it’s not hard to see why so many homeowners opt for a kitchen upgrade.

Depending on what you need, this is the time to improve your kitchen layout, add seating, increase storage, update finishes, and install new appliances. Kitchen remodels transform dated or humdrum rooms into beautiful, functional spaces that become the focal point of your home.

Remodeling for Efficiency: Cost-Saving Projects to Boost Home Value https://ccg-indy.com/2026/04/29/remodeling-for-efficiency-cost-saving-projects-to-boost-home-value/ Wed, 29 Apr 2026 17:31:17 +0000 https://ccg-indy.com/?p=3788 more »]]> If you want to get the most out of your next remodel, incorporate energy-efficient features to gain energy savings and add value to your home.

Depending on the improvement project, homeowners can reduce the energy usage in their home by as much as 50%, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. That adds up to significant energy savings, and if the project qualifies for a tax credit, you could save even more.

If you prioritize projects that increase your home’s value, more than half of real estate professionals say highlighting sustainable features adds to home value, according to the National Association of REALTORS®

Not sure where to start? Consider one (or more) of these energy-efficient projects in your next remodel.

Window and Door Replacement

New exterior doors and windows not only improve the look of your home, but also cut down on energy loss. Replacing drafty windows with Energy Star-certified windows lowers energy bills by an average of 12 percent. Other benefits of replacing old with new include longer-lasting materials, noise reduction, and accessible designs for easier window cleaning.

Energy-Saving Appliances

Choosing high-end appliances that also save on energy costs is a smart move for kitchen or laundry room remodels. Energy-efficient refrigerators save on cooling costs, while efficient dishwashers reduce water usage. Consider premium-yet-efficient stove and oven options, such as induction cooktops or convection ovens. For the laundry room, energy-saving washers and dryers improve performance and offer more load options.

Water-Saving Fixtures

Make a statement with kitchen or bathroom fixtures that reduce water consumption yet still provide optimal performance. These fixtures can be found in almost any style, from traditional two-handle faucets to modern, high-arc faucets. In the kitchen, handy features such as a pull-out sprayer or flexible spray modes help you target tasks and reduce water waste.

Sealing and Insulation

While reducing air leaks and adding attic insulation may not be the first thing you’d think of during a remodel, it makes a huge impact in your home (and utility bills). Simply sealing cracks to reduce drafts can result in 30% in annual energy savings. Insulation lowers heating and cooling costs and ensures your home stays cool in summer and warm in winter.

Eco-Friendly Materials

Choose materials with a high style factor and low environmental impact. Consider bamboo, concrete alternatives, or cork for flooring. For other style choices, you may want to opt for recycled steel or glass, or use unique, salvaged items. Sustainable options reduce environmental impact, provide durability, and make a design statement.

LED Lighting

Swap out dated lighting with LED lighting, which uses 75% less energy and lasts 25 times longer than incandescent lighting. The choices are limitless, from sleek recessed lighting to attention-grabbing chandeliers. Many LED lights offer dimmable options, providing flexibility in work or entertaining spaces. Pair this lighting with smart technology for automation and even greater energy savings.

Purposeful Built-Ins: Storage Solutions for Every Room https://ccg-indy.com/2026/03/31/built-in-storage-solutions/ Tue, 31 Mar 2026 15:29:15 +0000 https://ccg-indy.com/?p=3728 more »]]> Spring is the ideal time to clean, declutter, and organize your home. If you’re tired of the mess, it may be time to invest in custom built-ins that provide specialized storage right where you need it.

Adding high-quality storage solutions not only boosts your organization (and sanity), but also blends in with the style of your home. A built-in can function as a room’s focal point or provide tucked-away storage to make maximum use of space.

Consider adding built-ins to these key areas of your home to provide a seamless refresh and top-notch organization.

Entryway/Mudroom

Space by the door often goes to waste, but it needs organization as much as any other place. Consider custom built-ins in an entryway or mudroom to provide the ideal landing spot for coats, bags, shoes, outdoor accessories, or athletic equipment. You can even add electrical outlets for individual charging stations, so everyone keeps their gear organized, in one place, and ready to go.

Kitchen

Built-ins provide a clean look in the kitchen, with the added benefit of making the space look larger. Add cabinet fronts to large appliances or under-counter drink coolers to provide a seamless look. Max out storage with a floor-to-ceiling pantry for dry goods or small appliances.

Or, create a built-in bar area with cabinets and shelves to keep barware and accessories in one spot. Specialized kitchen storage cuts down on clutter while keeping ingredients or gadgets easily accessible.

Living Room

A built-in works to anchor a space and ties in elements for a cohesive look. In the living room, popular options include custom storage for a fireplace or TV. Depending on the space, cabinets or shelves provide a spot for books, collectibles, and decor.

A built-in reflects your style, so it can look dark and moody, sleek and modern, or feature traditional details. It’s also helpful in challenging layouts, as it can define a seating area or provide more space for activities.

Bathroom

Any bathroom, whether large or small, benefits from added storage. Add built-in cabinets to provide handy storage for towels, appliances, and other bathroom essentials. Consider placing a sink or bathtub within a built-in cabinet for a finished look and to create additional storage. In very small spaces where there isn’t any floorspace for additional furniture, consider recessed cabinets or shelves to meet your storage needs.

Bedroom

Custom storage options enhance the appearance and function of bedrooms. Built-in cabinets or closets eliminate dressers and other stand-alone furniture for a unified look. Plus, it improves clothing, shoe, and accessory storage to streamline morning and evening routines. If it’s a child’s room, you can use built-ins to create separate spaces for sleep, work, and play.

The possibilities are endless based on how you use the space. Consider a window seat with cabinet storage, built-in shelves for decor, or even a desk area with bookshelves. The right solution eliminates disorganization and transforms your bedroom into a peaceful getaway.

Double-Duty Remodels: Add Function with Multipurpose Rooms https://ccg-indy.com/2026/02/19/double-duty-remodels/ Thu, 19 Feb 2026 16:07:06 +0000 https://ccg-indy.com/?p=3714 Do you underuse rooms in your home, or dream of opening up more space? As life changes, our homes may need to change, too.

Creating multipurpose rooms helps you get the most out of your space while providing flexibility for the future. This no-rules approach places function as top priority, and results in an individualistic design that meets your specific needs.

If you want more out of your home remodel but aren’t sure where to start, consider these combination room ideas that help you utilize every square inch.

Kitchen + Lounge

Your kitchen already is the heart of your home, so why not make it more comfortable? Built-in seating with cozy cushions provides the perfect place to relax with coffee and orange juice in the morning or craft beer and wine in the evening. If you’ve got the space, consider a full-blown seating area that’s perfect for entertaining with couches, chairs, and side tables.

Dining Room + Office

If you walk by your dining room more than using it, consider placing a home office in this flex space. By adding tall cabinets or bookcases, you can create a seamless desk nook that blends in with the surroundings. Or, transform one wall into a student workstation with built-in cabinets and a slim table. Fold-up desktops or sliding cabinet doors can easily hide laptops and paperwork for a clean look. Other great office combo options include using a bedroom with a hideaway Murphy bed, spare room, or even the kitchen.

Laundry + Pet Utility Room

Keep clutter under control with a laundry room that doubles as a pet utility room. A laundry room is the ideal space to add a pet washing station, whether it’s a built-in sink or tiled shower nook. It’s also a great place for pet feeding stations or pet storage. For cat owners, a built-in cabinet with an opening for litter boxes keeps a messy necessity out of sight.

Guest Bedroom + Hobby Area

If your guest room doesn’t get much use, consider transforming this space for your favorite activities. This could include a fitness or meditation area, music room, craft space, or even just a relaxing spot to stream your favorite shows. Consider space-saving tricks, such as day beds, guest beds that fold against the wall, or drop-down tabletops. Screens or bookcases work to divide the area so you can maximize this dual-use room.

Family Room + Playroom

Whether you have kids in your home full-time or help out on the weekends, it can be a challenge finding places to store toys, games, and other accessories. A family room provides the ideal spot for central storage. Contain the clutter with built-ins, cabinets, or bookcases with pull-out baskets. Use rugs to divide the space and add seating with window seats or a kid-sized table and chairs. Designing with the same style and colors ensures a cohesive look while providing a fun place to lounge and play.

Aging in Place: Renovation Ideas to Improve Accessibility https://ccg-indy.com/2026/01/22/aging-in-place-renovation-ideas-to-improve-accessibility/ Thu, 22 Jan 2026 21:19:04 +0000 https://ccg-indy.com/?p=3702 more »]]> As family members age, many homeowners face renovation decisions to support aging in place.

Renovating or remodeling key areas in a home improves accessibility for aging family members and helps them remain independent for as long as possible – whether they live in their own home or in a multigenerational household.

As more people realize the need for features that support independent aging, it’s not surprising that 73% of industry leaders say requests for aging-in-place features have increased during the last five years, according to the National Association of Home Builders. Another bonus? Thoughtful modifications improve your property value, too.

Consider these renovation ideas to create a functional space for aging family members.

Walk-In Shower

A curbless shower eliminates dangerous slips and falls. It also provides more space for necessary accessories like built-in shower seats or foldable benches, which seamlessly blend in with your bathroom design.

Install grab bars for safety and consider handheld shower heads for additional flexibility. Other bathroom renovation ideas included nonslip flooring, raised toilets with grab bars, and pull-out cabinet shelves for convenient storage.

Accessible Sinks

Install a floating vanity or accessible sink to make bathrooms and kitchens easy to use for those in wheelchairs. Typically, these are installed at a lower height. Other considerations include a shallow sink and an easy-to-use faucet, such as a touchless faucet, extended lever handles, or a hands-free pedal faucet.

Kitchen Improvements

Kitchen upgrades that improve accessibility also work to increase storage. Install pull-out shelves to easily locate appliances or dishes. Consider smart storage options like rotating or slide-out corner shelves to make the most of hard-to-reach places. Other kitchen considerations include installing appliances, such as microwaves, at a lower level.

Wider Doorways

Those using walkers and wheelchairs benefit from wider doorways and hallways. Homeowners may want to consider altering the layout if their home has stairways, narrow hallways, or sharp turns into rooms. Swapping out round doorknobs with a lever-style handle improves accessibility. Eliminate entryway steps or provide an alternate entry to promote safety when coming and going.

Upgrade Lighting

Upgrade lighting in every room to improve task lighting and increase safety. Undercabinet task lighting and additional wall or overhead lighting improves visibility. Those using wheelchairs may prefer light switches at a lower height. Consider replacing traditional light switches with easier-to-use rocker switches or motion sensor light switches that automatically turn on and off.

Smart Home Devices

Keep your loved ones safe with smart home devices that provide security and ease daily tasks. A security system ensures safety with cameras, smart locks, and remote monitoring. To help aging family members with limited mobility, smart thermostats, lighting, or motorized window shades automate home comforts. Voice-enabled appliances provide hands-free control over laundry and kitchen appliances, or smaller appliances like coffeemakers and televisions.

A Modern Refresh for a Meridian-Kessler Classic https://ccg-indy.com/2025/12/15/a-modern-refresh-for-a-meridian-kessler-classic/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 21:15:33 +0000 https://ccg-indy.com/?p=3667 more »]]> Photos by Adam Gibson Photography

A charming home in the historic Meridian-Kessler neighborhood recently underwent a comprehensive remodel, touching nearly every space. With Central Construction Group at the helm and Adam Gibson leading the design, the project balanced modern updates with respect for the home’s original character.

The project began with new electrical throughout, followed by refinishing the solid oak hardwood floors in the bathrooms, kitchen, and second floor. For the walls, the homeowners chose Sherwin-Williams 7011 Natural Choice, a soft, neutral shade described as “creamy yet cool,” to bring a cohesive feel to the interior.

A new space addition at the back of the home includes a dining room and extra bedroom, making the layout more flexible for everyday living. Outside, the exterior received a full makeover with new siding, doors, windows, and a deck designed for outdoor entertaining.

For the kitchen, the homeowners chose custom carpentry, honey bronze hardware, quartz countertops, and upgraded Miele appliances, blending function with elegance. They also added a pull-out drawer for their pet bowls.

In the primary bath, classic white subway tile sets the backdrop for a high-end Kohler Veil wall-mounted toilet, complete with integrated bidet and night light, sourced with help from the local Kohler Signature Store.

On the second floor, the homeowners created a serene experience with the addition of a soaking tub, marble tile, a heated towel rack, and refreshed cabinetry and finishes.

The result is a home that feels updated, welcoming, and more functional, adding an elevated take on a Meridian-Kessler classic. Take a look at the home prior to the remodel by Central Construction Group in the three “before” photos below.

Ready to Relax? Convert Your Bathroom into a Spa Getaway https://ccg-indy.com/2025/11/21/spa-like-bathroom-renovations/ Fri, 21 Nov 2025 21:51:04 +0000 https://ccg-indy.com/?p=3645 more »]]> With the approaching holidays and busy schedules, all you may want is a little time to relax. Instead of booking a far-away vacation, why not renovate your bathroom to create a calming retreat right in your own home?

Whether you choose an all-out remodel or a select few updates, you can turn your bathroom into a light-filled, airy space that rests the senses and revitalizes your energy.

It’s also a wise move value-wise, as those who opt for midrange bathroom remodels see an average of 80% of their cost recouped, according to the Journal of Light Construction.

Need some ideas? Consider these spa-inspired upgrades to transform your bathroom from drab to luxurious.

Luxury Fixtures

Water is a bathroom essential, but swapping out fixtures elevates the experience. Rainfall showerheads provide an oversized yet gentle water flow, while waterfall sink or bathtub faucets look beautiful and contribute to the overall calm. Modern, efficient fixtures also work to reduce water waste.

Sauna or Steam Room

Skip the public sauna and create a health-centered space catered to your specific needs. A sauna generates a dry heat by heating the air or using infrared light, while a steam room provides humidity from heated water. Both are used for potential health benefits, reducing stress, and improving relaxation.

Spacious Layout

An expansive bathroom layout or roomy shower area ensures you won’t feel closed in and can move around with ease. A functional layout also provides ample storage options so you can keep necessities, like fluffy towels, close by where you need them.

Spa-Inspired Lighting

Depending on your space, increase the natural light (skylights, anyone?) to brighten up the room and embrace the spa atmosphere. Or, consider adding ambient lighting in the shower or improve task lighting by the vanity. The use of glass and strategic mirror placement works to light up the space, too.

Contemporary Cabinetry

Renovate bathroom cabinets using natural materials to capture the spa aesthetic. Custom cabinetry opens up a range of design options, enabling you to create your perfect space. Consider tall cabinets in neutral tones to hang robes and folded towels, or combine a vanity with a seating space for a comfortable place to apply spa-worthy skin treatments.

Heated Floors

Banish frigid toes and instead step out of the shower onto a warm, heated floor. Energy-efficient radiant heat is a great choice for the bathroom, eliminating the need for other heat sources. Programmable options allow you to set a schedule and temperature preferences, creating a spa-like feel to your home.

If you’re ready to give your bathroom a new look but don’t know where to start, Central Construction Group is here to help. We offer free, no-obligation consultations so you can find the best solution for your budget. Call us at (317) 213-6246 or connect with us on Facebook or Instagram.

6 Ideas to Transform Your Kitchen for Entertaining https://ccg-indy.com/2025/09/11/kitchen-ideas-for-entertainers/ Thu, 11 Sep 2025 20:31:35 +0000 https://ccg-indy.com/?p=3601 more »]]> If you’re looking for ways to create an entertaining-friendly space, look no further than your kitchen. With just a few changes, you can transform this practical area into the perfect spot for food, friends, and fun.

The good news is you can do this whether you’re planning a full kitchen remodel or simply want to improve your space with functional and stylish additions. A well designed plan includes creating the right atmosphere so guests feel at ease, as well as practical matters like where to store food and clean dishware.

Consider these top ideas to revamp your kitchen into the ideal entertaining space.

Custom Island and Countertops

kitchen with large custom island and pendant lighting

A one-of-a-kind island and countertops dials up the “wow” factor and anchors your kitchen’s entertaining space. Guests gravitate to comfortable chairs and barstools where they can enjoy drinks and good conversation.

When it comes to island placement, it’s important to consider kitchen floorplan and layout, so your guests can easily navigate through rooms and carry on conversations with ease.

Seating Areas

Look beyond the kitchen with connected seating areas. Smaller seating areas with a comfortable couch or chairs provide ambience and allow guests to enjoy quieter conversations away from the crowd. It’s also a good place for guests to appreciate an outdoor view, warmth from a fireplace, or a game on TV. Or, add built-in benches and a table to turn an underused corner into a convenient seating area.

Beverage and Wine Coolers

Optimize your undercounter space with a beverage and wine cooler to keep drinks ready for your next gathering. A beverage cooler with matching cabinetry keeps craft beer or cocktail ingredients ready and at the right temperature.

A wine cooler maximizes wine storage and provides humidity control, stylishly preserving your bottles of vino. Choose customized bottle or can configurations, LED lighting, and a range of temperature controls to meet your specific entertaining needs.

Walk-in Pantry

A walk-in pantry allows you to easily organize food and spices or store entertaining supplies and bulky appliances out of sight. This useful space is fully customizable, so you decide the placement of shelves, drawers, or pull-out racks.

You may choose to dedicate shelves for go-to ingredients or hard-to-store platters and bowls you reach for when you serve a crowd.

Convenient Storage

Create personalized kitchen storage solutions to streamline your entertaining. This could include adding open shelving to store copper barware or modern glassware that’s too pretty to hide behind cabinet doors.

Maybe you need a designated spot to store cocktail accessories or additional shelving to store plates, bowls, and snack trays. The right storage solutions help you stay organized and ensure you can quickly assist your guests.

Luxury Appliances

Preparing food and drinks is messy business, no matter how many people you host. Ease your workload with luxury appliances that work efficiently and are built to last. High-end stovetops, ovens, and refrigerators provide superior performance and look impressive. Consider doubling up on ovens or dishwashers to speed up the cooking and cleaning process, keeping your kitchen in tip-top entertaining shape.

Converting Unused Spaces Into In-Law Suites or Airbnb Rentals https://ccg-indy.com/2025/08/22/converting-unused-spaces-into-in-law-suites-or-airbnb-rentals/ Fri, 22 Aug 2025 14:35:06 +0000 https://ccg-indy.com/?p=3594 more »]]> Got an unused garage, basement, attic, or pool house? You may be sitting on untapped potential.

Converting extra space into an in-law suite or Airbnb rental can put money back in your pocket while giving your home more flexibility and functionality.

Many homeowners today turn to short-term rentals to offset their mortgage or create passive income. And if you have aging parents, adult children, or frequent guests, an in-law suite offers privacy and comfort for everyone. Even better? A well-planned conversion often boosts your property value.

You don’t have to convert unused space just for rentals or guests—you can do it for yourself, too. Homeowners often come to us looking for ways to make their homes more functional. In 2024, we worked with an Indianapolis couple to turn an empty room in a 1940s Butler-Tarkington home into the bathroom of their dreams.

Bathroom remodel by Central Construction Group in Indianapolis.

Spaces that Make the Best Conversions

Every home is unique, but the following spaces offer prime opportunity:

  • Garages: Whether attached or detached, garages are prime spots for stand-alone suites with separate entrances.
  • Basements: With the right finishing touches, a basement can become a fully equipped apartment.
  • Attics or Lofts: Perfect for cozy rentals or private guest quarters.
  • Outbuildings: Sheds, pool houses, or workshops can easily transform into small but stylish living spaces.

Design Considerations for Unused Spaces

You want to create a space that feels private, comfortable, and functional. Most homeowners start by making sure the new space has its own entrance, which gives both you and your guests a sense of independence.

From there, the details make all the difference. A kitchenette or compact full kitchen lets visitors cook their own meals, while a well-designed bathroom with a walk-in shower adds convenience and accessibility.
