5 Tips for Living Through a Renovation or Remodel

At Central Construction Group, Inc. we are committed to helping you live successfully through a renovation. In fact, we even offer to relocate your appliances and necessary items to other parts of your home so you can feel settled during the process. Even with our relocation though, it can still be hard to manage a home renovation. Here are five tips for living through a home renovation

1. Have a plan and a backup plan, and a back, backup plan

In essence, have a lot of plans and start making them as early as possible. If you know you’re going to be out of town for an extended period of time, try to coordinate that with your home project. If you have a particularly busy season at work, you may also want to plan your renovation during this time since you will likely be spending less time at home, and more time at work. While it may seem counterintuitive, if the idea of living in your home during a remodel causes you stress, this strategy helps alleviate some of that. You should also have a plan for how you’re going to adjust your lifestyle during the reno and have a backup plan to ease you into the remodel. This may include staying with family and friends, relocating to another area of the home, using paper plates and utensils rather than having to wash dishes in a bathtub, for example.

2. Contain the Chaos

When you renovate or remodel, you need to clear out your space. This requires you to pack things up and store them. If you want lower stress during a remodel, store the items out of your way. For example, consider parking outside during your renovation and storing your belongings in the garage. This helps you from feeling like the rest of your home is compromised by the renovation. You might even want to rent a small storage unit for a month or two if it helps keep you sane during the renovation.

3. Find an alternative space

Specifically when kitchens and bathrooms are being renovated, space in the rest of the house feels tight. If you can plan ahead and find an alternative space to fulfill your needs, you will find more balance throughout your renovation. If you typically apply make-up or style your hair in the bathroom under renovation, consider setting up a make shift vanity in a hallway or near a window. For a kitchen renovation, setting up a temporary kitchen can do wonders. Buy yourself a cookbook of crock pot recipes, set up a hot plate, plug in your microwave, and utilize your grill. It is entirely possible to happily survive without a designer kitchen for a few months.

4. Have a team and a budget that you trust

At Central Construction Group, Inc. we work hard to provide extremely detailed estimates. We want our clients to know exactly how much their renovation or remodel will cost and we don’t want there to be any surprises. Our process helps ensure that the only thing you’re doing during your renovation is waiting with excitement for it to be finished.

5. Remember that it is temporary and it will pay off!

We want to help you live in the home of your dreams. We work with you until things are exactly as you want so that you can feel pride waking up and coming home every day. The renovation process is always difficult because it uproots part of your life, but we know the long-term impact is always worth it. Remember this during the renovation and you will be much happier.

Broad Ripple Bathroom Modernization Takes a Dive into Luxury

As whimsical and character-forward as they are, vintage bathrooms aren’t always the most functional. Pedestal sinks lack storage.
