Cleaning Up Your Mud Room

Utilizing all the space in your home is important, and staying organized can be tough. Mudrooms can be forgotten, but when it’s one of the first space you see when stepping into your home, keeping it organized can make your days run more smoothly. Whether it’s a specific spot behind a door or its own room, you can make this space super-functional and organized with these ideas.

Coats

Now you probably already have a coat hooks, but do you have enough? Making sure you have enough for everyone in the family can cut down on the chaos of grabbing it on the way out. No more throwing moms coat on the floor to get to yours, everyone has their own designated hook.

Seating

Taking on/off your shoes standing up can be a hard task sometimes, placing a long thin bench along the wall can help. Not only that but it provides more storage, you can build a closable bench or an open bench with storage boxes underneath for easy access.

Shoes

Throwing your shoes off right when you get in the house can become a bad habit and cause a mess on the floor for everyone else walking in. There is an array of shoe storage cubbies to choose from online or you can DIY it, just place them under the coat hooks for a good use of unused space.

Pets/Toys

With shoes or paws constantly shuffling in and out you want this transition space into your home clean and functional. Add some shelving above the coat hooks for leashes, toys, and dedicated mudroom towels for quick easy cleaning and leave the mud outside.

Flooring

If you’re starting fresh, remember to choose flooring that is durable. Choose non-porous surfaces like tile, stone, or sealed wood or concrete. Keep a Swiffer behind the door for easy cleaning when things get messy.

Rugs

It all starts at the door, so if you can stop the mess there that’s your safest bet. Add a rough matt to wipe off shoes and trap dirt, dust, pollen and mud before they come into the house.

Rain

We can’t stop the rain, to make sure you can always find that umbrella on the way out keep an umbrella basket by the door. This will give your umbrella a specific home so you will never run late again searching for it!

Laundry

Don’t have enough space at home? Integrate your laundry room into your mudroom,

save space and throw dirty wet clothes right into the washer without tracking it into the house, it’s a win win.
