Remodeling your kitchen consists of one series of important decisions after another — and choosing the major appliances is no different. While they aren’t always the central focus of a kitchen redesign, at Central Construction Group, Inc. in Indianapolis, we know that a functional and efficient kitchen design often revolves around the appliances.
To ensure you are up-to-date on the latest and greatest trends in kitchen appliances, our designers have compiled a list of the current appliance trends.
Fancy Fridges & Freezers
While refrigerators have gotten larger in the recent decades, smaller models are emerging as popular alternatives. Called counter-depth (which is typically 24 inches) these low profile refrigerators blend in well with the cabinetry – as opposed to sticking out into the space. The result is similar to those built-in refrigerators provide.
Another notable trend in kitchen cooling is the disappearance of the side-by-side refrigerator and freezer. French-door refrigerators – with the freezer drawer on the bottom – have become more popular and arguably more functional.
Free Range Cooktops & Wall Ovens
While freestanding stoves with a cook top and oven are still popular, the latest trend in functional and space saving kitchens is to insert a separate cook top directly into the countertop. This frees up valuable space, and gives you freedom to install your cook top in various locations — such as the kitchen island.
So where does the oven go? Why into the walls, of course. Wall ovens can be put at base cabinet level, eye level – or both – giving them versatility and functionality that can’t be beat by a standard range.
Hot Warming Drawers
Specialty drawers and additions are making an appearance in upgraded kitchens. Warming drawers allow you to keep your prepared meal (plates and even towels) the perfect temperature until ready for consumption. No more cold dinners after getting home late from a round of golf or soccer practice.
Decorative Range Hoods
While range hoods have typically taken a more functional role in the kitchen, high-style range hoods are making an appearance in kitchen designs. Metal hoods offer a sophisticated and rich contrast to the popular neutral tones of cabinetry.
Discrete Garbage Disposals
Don’t let your post-meal peace be disturbed by the loud grinding of a garbage disposal. Fantastic companies such as InSinkErator, now offer garbage disposals that are virtually silent thanks to special sealing technologies. The same company also offers a sink-top push button to activate the garbage disposal — eliminating the need for a switch that only detracts from your backsplash.
Cool Wine Refrigerators & Kegerators
Wines and craft beers are trending, so it’s no surprise that wine refrigerators and kegerators are making their way into kitchen redesigns. While wine cellars may be popular with affluent homeowners with sizeable wine collections, an entire wine cellar isn’t necessary for the majority of homeowners. Wine refrigerators — that have various settings to keep your bottles at the perfect temperature — typically offer sufficient storage space.
Not much of a wine drinker? Kegerators look similar to a dishwasher, except they hold a keg of beer and a canister of carbon dioxide, allowing you to drink draft beer on tap. Placed next to the wine refrigerator, your kitchen can become the ultimate room for entertaining. Cheers!
