6 Updates for a Sleek Kitchen

Is there anything better than a good kitchen remodel? We don’t think so. But sometimes you don’t need to go through the hassle of updating your entire kitchen to get the look that you want. From small things like hardware to painting from top to bottom, here are a few ideas to update your kitchen to get that sleek look.

Hardware Updates

As simple as this sounds, you would be shocked by how big of a difference new hardware can make in your kitchen. Taking some outdated, clunky handles and replacing them with a more modern, sleek, and simple design will breathe some life into an older kitchen. Gold accents are very popular if you’re looking for your handles to pop, and black simple handles pair with just about any kitchen look.

Glass Panes

If you’re handy you could do this yourself or you can buy specific cabinets for this purpose.  Adding glass panes into the mix of your existing cabinets allows you to show off some of your prettier kitchen items or decor. This gives your eye more interest among the walls of cabinets. Mixing it up with a few well-placed glass panes can elevate your kitchen’s entire look. Just make sure you style them accordingly!

Open Shelving

On the other hand, maybe open shelving is more your thing. Do you have a few cabinets that you could do without? Or a space that just needs a little more white space to make it appealing? Or how about an empty kitchen wall? Adding open shelving to or around your cabinets will update your kitchen to feel more minimal and modern.

Lighting

Recessed lighting has its time and place, but don’t be scared to update your kitchen lighting to something a bit more fun. Some pendant lights may be just what you need to update its look. Kitchen lighting tends to be ignored when really it can be attention-grabbing. Adding interesting pendant lights over your island or above your sink will pull people’s eyes towards the kitchen. Well-designed lighting will help illuminate your kitchen and show it off!

Countertops

There are many different kinds of countertops to choose from – laminate, woodblock, marble, stainless steel, and concrete. Quartz countertops stay ahead of the pack by being so durable and having so many different kinds of looks. Whatever your style is, there is a type of quartz countertop out there for you, while also being basically impermeable and scratch-proof. Quartz is definitely on the pricier end of countertops, so keep that in mind as well.

Paint

The walls, the cabinets, or both. With just a few gallons of paint, changing the color of your kitchen’s walls will completely change its look. Go for a white, cream, or light gray to really bring the light into your kitchen and keep it sleek and simple. Are your cabinets looking like they’ve seen better days? You may want to think about painting them. There are tried and true methods out there for you to do it yourself, or you can hire someone to paint them professionally. Either way, pick an inspiring color for you. You can’t go wrong with a classic white kitchen, but navy blue, gray, and other fun colors can add some extra flair.
