Expanding a home’s outdoor living space adds value and great curb appeal, but sometimes it can be aesthetically difficult to achieve when renovating a historic home located within a small footprint. This sturdy brick home, built in the 1930s in Indianapolis’ Meridian Kessler neighborhood, presented an interesting challenge for Central Construction Group to reconstruct the existing back porch and enhance it with better functionality.

Reuse Material to Save on Your Screen Porch
The original porch deck featured rotting railings, dilapidated deck supports and a pergola well past its prime, but the deck itself remained strong. Central Construction Group simply demolished and replaced everything but the deck, then power-washed the deck and anointed it in IPE oil to give it a revitalized new look.

Screened Porches Protect Against the Elements
To provide protection from the elements, the CCG crew created custom-fit screen panels to enclose the porch. The construction project also included installing new rubberized roofing, gutters, downspouts, deck skirting, spindle rails, black decorative spindles with top rail, and a new paint job.
When planning the exterior screened porch project, Central Construction Group worked with the homeowners to design a new roof with a low slope for best protection against the rain. CCG also repaired the masonry and brickwork where the deck affixes to the house, thus ensuring a stable and long-lasting addition.
The new roof was covered with a rubberized membrane that strengthens water resistance. Such improvements not only allow for a more secure structure, but guarantee the value of your home against the ravages of time and weather.
Screened Porches Sometimes Need Electricity
For summer days that range from warm to outright sweltering, the fresh air from the tasteful screen covers might not be enough.
Along with the lovely cedar roofing that provides sun and rain protection, Central Construction Group also installed ceiling fans to keep everyone cool. Newly installed electrical outlets and lighting provide options for keeping warm with space heaters in the winter or listening to music on a hot summer evening.
