Choose White for a Kitchen to Love Through the Decades

kitchen remodeling

Don’t let the difficult decision to choose paint colors stump you if you’re considering a kitchen remodel. The answer is white. Homeowners everywhere love classic all-white kitchens for a number of reasons.

  • All-white kitchens are timeless.
  • They provide the perfect backdrop for your family’s unique style.
  • They appeal to homebuyers.
  • They save money over time.
  • They make even dark or small rooms feel larger, brighter and cleaner.
  • White is the ultimate neutral color and a versatile playground for any home style, from farmhouse to modern, or rustic to transitional. White doesn’t mean colorless. All-white kitchens invite every color to come in and play. White kitchens are endlessly customizable and showcase what families love, whether that’s crystal chandeliers or reclaimed barn beams.

If you want the hottest current color trend for 2021, don’t paint your center island cabinet bluish green. Opt instead for various shades of white, then add bluish green pottery on top of a marble countertop. It’s less expensive to switch out accent pieces to fit your color-theme mood, rather than repainting the whole room when next year’s color trend report comes out.

You’ll also save money in the long run with a white kitchen because your larger investments, such as cabinets, countertops and tile, don’t need to change if a prospective buyer prefers Vegas bling to your seashells and sisal rugs.

And to top it all off, kitchens with white walls feel more cheerful and clean, and white surfaces reflect more light and make even interior rooms feel larger.

Central Construction Group recently transformed a 1988 kitchen that felt a little dark and cramped into an all-white showcase with a larger feel that extends into the living room. CCG’s in-house designer can help you design your own all-white kitchen and bring your ideas to life in a 3D floor plan at no extra charge as part of CCG’s general contracting services.

Here are some of our top tips to achieve a white-kitchen look with class and style:

Open Cramped Spaces with New Cabinets

Look how much lighter and larger the new kitchen feels. We worked with the homeowner to remove bulkheads as a way to open up the room, then we added taller, Shaker-style cabinetry in white with timeless panels and classic crown moulding. The 15-inch-deep glass-front cabinets showcase treasured dishware. This kitchen used to feel like it was closing in on itself, but now it’s a calm, modern, and inviting space.

    Warm It Up with Wood

White is wood’s best friend. Wood floors, countertops, shelves and art anchor white rooms. Wood invokes nature for the calming, upscale feel many homeowners seek today.

We sanded and stained the wood floor in this house with a darker neutral tone that warms up the white, looks great with stainless steel appliances, and grounds the custom-made, distressed black center island that features a walnut butcher block counter.

Add Layers and Texture for Visual Interest

White, gray, black, and brown are all neutral colors that work well together, but there’s a trick to keeping it interesting and even playful while keeping colors neutral.

Vary textures and finishes for a layered, upscale look. Pull in some natural elements and distressed finishes, as in the center island, posh pieces such as crystal, and a shiny metal range hood. We boosted visual interest by varying the backsplash, which features subway tiles throughout and floral patterned tiles around the range hood.

    Kick Up the Wow Factor

Smart stainless steel appliances add tons of convenience, while nothing says modern and clean like a white Cambria quartz countertop. And you can’t feel more at home than with a Kohler Whitehaven apron sink. If you never cook a meal, you’ll still be happy just looking at this combination in your new kitchen.

    Pull it All Together

Consider adjacent spaces when remodelling your kitchen. It’s easy to incorporate elements of a new kitchen into dining or living rooms for a cohesive style. We continued the flooring in this project into the living room and upgraded the living room buffet. Better lighting, modern floating shelves, a wine cooler and matching cabinets in black pull the look together.
